Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California Scholarship

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in becoming a Children's Librarian.

The Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California (ACL) is pleased to announce that there are 3 annual membership scholarships available to persons who are planning to become children's librarians. ACL is a group of public and school librarians that has been meeting monthly since the 1930s to review children's books. The group also presents an annual Insitute on a topic of interest to children's librarians, sponsors the annual Performers' Showcase of would-be library performers, and publishes an annual list of distinguished books and a monthly review journal, BayViews. The scholarships offer an opportunity for those seriously considering a career in children's librarianship to discuss children's books and librarianship with working professionals. Successful candidates will receive one free year's membership and admission to ACL events, including the annual Insitute. Monthly meetings are currently held on the second Friday of the month at the Oakland Public Library, West Auditorium.
Applications for these Dorothy Helfeld Fellowships, given in loving memory of longtime member Dorothy Helfeld, are available at www.bayviews.org. Applications for the 2010/2011 fellowships must be received by June 7, 2010. Candidates who applied previously are eligible to apply again by submitting a new application. For further information, please contact Elizabeth Overmyer at scholarship@bayviews.org.

Important Summer and Fall Enrollment Fee Information

For enrollment in either summer or fall courses, fees must now be paid within 14 days of your enrollment, or by the first day of class – whichever comes SOONER.

While this has always been the College’s stated policy, it has not be broadly enforced. Beginning May 1, you will automatically be DROPPED from all classes if your fees are not paid on time.

Important Fee Payment Changes for All SCC Students

To make sure as many students as possible have a chance to enroll in classes, the Fee payment processes are changing for the Fall/Summer 2010 semesters. Below is a list of changes:

1) As always, PAYMENT IS DUE AT TIME OF ENROLLMENT.
To avoid being dropped from your classes, your payment must be received and processed within 14 calendar days from the day you enroll in a class or the last day before the start of classes, whichever is sooner.

2) CHECK YOUR EMAIL
We will not be sending students a paper invoice. Instead, students who have not paid their fees will be sent an email reminding them fees are due.

3) To avoid being dropped, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE 14th DAY TO PAY YOUR FEES. Our system will perform DAILY auto drops of students who enrolled and whose payment was not received AND processed within the prior 14-day period.

4) WAITLISTED CLASSES WILL BE DROPPED FROM YOUR SCHEDULE in addition to the classes you are enrolled in, but not paid for.

Payment Requirements: Before the start of the semester

For Summer 2010: Students who enroll after May 21st must have their payment received and processed by Friday, June 4th or they will be dropped for non-payment of fees.

For Fall 2010: Students who enroll after August 6th must have their payment received and processed by Friday, August 20th or they will be dropped for non-payment of fees.

Payment Requirements: Once the semester has started

Students who enroll in classes after the semester has started must pay fees on the day of enrollment. This is true even if you are enrolling in a late-start class or off a wait list. Once the semester has begun, enrollment fees are due the day of enrollment.
